Day 1 – Arrival Lima

Welcome to Lima – An Ancient Summit representative will welcome you and privately transport you to your hotel. The location of your hotel will be decided based on your arrival time.

Overnight: LIMA

 Day 2  – Lima to Arequipa – The White City

Morning flight to Arequipa to begin your private tour of the White City. Visit the “Andean Sanctuary Museum” where the Mummy known as Juanita lives. Also visit the famous monastery – a “City within a City”. Your evening is free to explore.

Overnight: AREQUIPA

 Day 3 – Arequipa to Colca Canyon

An early morning start for the drive into the Colca Canyon.  After check-in at your Lodge, enjoy the lodge’s private hot springs

 Day 4 – Colca Canyon to Arequipa

Another early departure towards Cross of the Condor to view their flight over the canyon. We also visit local villages of the Colca Valley and learn about the villagers´ traditions and customs. Local traditional dress is exquisite and unique.

 Day 5  – Arequipa to Cusco to Sacred Valley

Morning flight to Cusco.  Enjoy your flight over the Andes. Your personal guide and driver will travel at your pace as you journey from Cusco to the Sacred Valley. Visit Pisac to experience the Market and impressive archeological site. Lunch awaits you at an exclusive private home in the Sacred Valley.

 Day 6 – Sacred Valley

We have a choice of activities including kayaking or stand up paddle boarding at a glacier lake or cylcing through the majestic Valley followed by a gourmet picnic lunch. After lunch, we visit an authentic village whose inhabitants still practice their traditional lifestyle

 Day 7 – Sacred Valley – Horse Trek in the Andes

Enjoy the very special ranch belonging to Nina’s dear friend Pablo. We have horseback riding and your opportunity to visit Moray, Maras and the incredible salt terraces. After lunch make your own chocolate the traditional way and chef will create a sumptuous cake with it just for you.

Day 8 – Express Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Our train journey starts in Ollantaytambo and finishes at ‘Km 104’ of the Inca Trail, where your trek begins. Arrive into Machu Picchu via the Inti Punku (Sun Gate) for your first inspiring view of our Wonder of the World!

Overnight: AGUAS CALIENTES OR SANCTUARY LODGE

 

Day 9 – Machu Picchu to Sacred Valley

After breakfast enjoy your SUNRISE guided tour. Today you will learn about this most amazing architecture and the mysterious temples to better understand the sophisticated ideas of this highly advanced culture. Late this afternoon we board the train and return to the Sacred Valley

 Day 10 – Sacred Valley to Cusco

Today we return to Cusco stopping along the way depending on what inspires you. This afternoon is your private tour of Cusco.  Your evening is free to explore.

Day 11 – Cusco to Lima to Paracas

Morning flight back to Lima to begin your drive South down the coast towards Paracas. Along the way, we will visit Peruvian Vineyards (Bodegas) and learn about the preparation process for Pisco – the national liquor of Peru

 Day 12 – Paracas

Tour the Ballestas Islands “Peru’s mini Galapagos”.  Visit the Paracas National Reserve then continue our tour through the desert, until we reach the beautiful beach of Lagunillas. Here you can enjoy a meal and drinks by the sea.

Day 13 – Paracas to Lima

Morning drive back to Lima where we tour as much as possible of our City of Kings. Tours today and tomorrow can include modern and colonial Lima as well as visits to the Larco Herrera Museum and Huaca Pucllana.

Day 14  – Lima

Explore Lima. The timing will be decided based on your international departure time.

From Lima, we fly to Arequipa, the White City. After exploring, we drive a majestic route past smoking volcanos to Colca Canyon where we search for the famous condor. Returning to Arequipa for our flight to Cusco where we start the journey of exploration through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. After exploring Machu Picchu, we return to Cusco for our flight to Lima, then follow the coast south to Paracas.

 Day 1 – Arrival Lima

Welcome to Lima – An Ancient Summit representative will welcome you and privately transport you to your hotel. The location of your hotel will be decided based on your arrival time.

Day 2 – Lima to Arequipa – The White City

At the appropriate time, we will be back to help you checked in for your flight to Arequipa. Upon arrival in Arequipa we will meet you and escort you to your hotel. After a brief rest and depending on your energy levels, we will begin your private tour of the White City. Visit the “Andean Sanctuary Museum” where the Mummy known as Juanita lives. Juanita is thought to be approximately 12 years old. She endured in a frozen condition for over 500 years at the top of the snow-capped volcano of Ampato. You also visit the Convent of Santa Catalina. Inside is a rich collection of a religious artworks and architecture from the colonial era, as well as sites of historic note, such as The Gate, Los Naranjos cloister, the Patio of Silence, the bell tower, the church itself, and the distinctive streets of this “City within a City”. Your evening is free to explore.

Day 3 – Arequipa to Colca Canyon

Yesterday you will have set your early morning start time for the drive into the Colca Canyon. Venturing into the Canyon there are various stops along the way, as this is a very interesting route including passing smoking volcanos. On this drive, you will usually run into (not literally) members of the camelid family – wild llamas, alpacas and even the shy vicuña whose wool is coveted and considered to be the rarest, finest fiber in the world!  We arrive to the Colca Valley in the afternoon and continue the drive to your Lodge. After check-in, you can enjoy the lodge’s private hot springs

Day 4 – Colca Canyon to Arequipa

This morning you will have an early departure towards Cross of the Condor to view their flight over the canyon. Condors are the largest flying land bird in the Western Hemisphere.  You will also visit local villages of the Colca Valley and learn about the villagers´ traditions and customs. Local dress is composed of traditional skirts, colorful jackets and hats bordered with flowers, animals and other designs from nature. Late this afternoon you will arrive to Arequipa and your evening is free

Day 5 – Arequipa to Cusco to Sacred Valley

We will be back to help get you checked in for the flight to Cusco.  Enjoy your flight over the Andes. Upon arrival, you will meet your guide and your driver and begin your picturesque journey towards the Sacred Valley. As we approach the Valley, we will have a special stop at the Pisac Market. It’s a traditional Andean Market (now fairly touristy but still interesting), as well as hiking the archeological site. After this, we continue to the village of Calca and the home of Nina’s dear friends where a specially prepared lunch awaits.   Wonderful home cooking and seasonal ingredients come from their own organic garden. There will also be time to enjoy their lovely gardens. A member of this family is a well-known Peruvian artist and if home, just might invite you to visit his private studio. After lunch and depending on how you feel, we can have additional stops or take you to your hotel

Day 6 – Sacred Valley

This morning we drive through the scenic Sacred Valley to visit Ollantaytambo. This site is one of the few places the Spaniards lost a battle during the conquest and could be the reason why they never found Machu Picchu! Leaving the village, we have another Andean drive to an area called Chinchero. Here, we take a detour off the beaten path and stop for a lakeside gourmet picnic style lunch. After lunch, we continue to an authentic village whose inhabitants still practice their traditional lifestyle. This is not a usual tourist stop but something we offer our visitors as this is one of the communities we are dedicated to working closely for sustainability and education of the children. We can hike through the land and learn about the agriculture and medicinal plants. Our “Moms” welcome you for a demonstration of their ancient weaving tradition and you can participate if the spirit moves you. Nina’s son, Julio, runs the after school-learning center and is very committed to the children. The Documentary – Village of Dreams, about our work was filmed here. The day ends back in the Valley where you can now have a well-deserved rest.

Day 7 – Sacred Valley – Horse Trek in the Andes

Continuing the adventure, today we have horseback riding in the Sacred Valley with your opportunity to visit Moray, Maras and the incredible salt terraces.  After a short orientation and accompanied by your chalan1, you set off on rural paths, passing small villages and communities. Travelling on your Peruvian Caballo de Paso, the national horse of Peru, we are transported into a rural lifestyle, meeting and greeting villagers in their everyday lives, where we respectfully interact with them in their cultural space and get a glimpse of their daily rhythms. Using paths that have existed in the area since before the time of the Inca’s, you will enjoy some truly impressive views as well as a wonderful packed lunch in the great outdoors along the way.

Day 8 – Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu on the Inca Trail!

Very early this morning, we return to Ollantaytambo to board the train for the panoramic journey to Km 104, where your trek begins. Crossing the Vilcanota River via a beautiful bridge we arrive at Chachabamba, the first Inca site on the trek. Upon leaving this site, the path heads into a forest offering some welcomed shade.  We reach a wonderful waterfall and shortly afterwards arrive at the beautiful Inca construction of Wiñay Wayna (‘Forever Young’).  The journey continues to Inti Punku (Sun Gate) and your first inspiring view of our Wonder of the World!  After taking in the view, you will descend into the Citadel and exit for your hotel.  Enjoy your evening right here in the magic!

Day 9 – Explore Machu Picchu

After breakfast, your guide will meet you to begin your tour of the Lost City.  If you want to get up nice and early, we can catch the sunrise inside the Citadel. During your tour, you will learn about this most amazing architecture and the mysterious temples to better understand the sophisticated ideas of this highly advanced culture. Lunch is served at Sanctuary Lodge when you are ready and still time to continue exploring the Lost City. Late this afternoon, we board the train and return to the Sacred Valley where your now familiar driver will be waiting to drive you to your hotel.  Free evening to relax and reminisce about the wonders.

Day 10 – Sacred Valley to Cusco

Today, with special memories and an understanding of why the Incas called it the Sacred Valley, we begin the drive out of this special place and get on the road to Cusco. Along the way, we will make some stops depending on what inspires you. This afternoon is your private tour of Cusco.  A city famed for its blend of Spanish and Inca cultures and has long been the inspiration for many an artist and chef.  Once the principal city of the Inca empire, and is now the undisputed archaeological capital of the Americas. Your evening is free and you can wander out and explore.

 Day 11 – Cusco to Lima to Paracas

At the appropriate time, we will drive you to Cusco airport for your flight back to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima you will be met by your guide and driver and begin the drive South down the coast towards Paracas. Along the way, we will visit Peruvian Vineyards (Bodegas). You will see and learn about the different types of grapes and the preparation process for Pisco – the national liquor of Peru and a spirit that continues to gain more international fans every day.  Since these are vineyards, the majority also produce wines that you can taste as well. We will leave you at your lovely hotel in Paracas.

Day 12 – Paracas

This morning is your tour to the Ballestas Islands “Peru’s mini Galapagos”.  These islands have been eroded to form countless natural caves and arches. It is home to millions of sea birds such as flamingos, pelicans and Humboldt Penguins, all able to feed in some of the richest fishing grounds in the Pacific. During your visit to the Paracas National Reserve, you will be able to spot large groups of flamingos feeding on the shores of the sea. Getting a better view of these beautiful birds will require a short walk to a small viewpoint. Later, you will visit the Interpretation Center of the Paracas National Reserve, where you will learn about the ancient Paracas people who inhabited this area over two thousand years ago.  You will be able to see the famous Paracas deformed skulls, as well as examples of cranial trepanation. We will then continue our tour through the desert, until we reach the beautiful beach of Lagunillas. Here you can enjoy lunch and drinks by the sea.

Day 13 – Paracas to Lima

This morning, we begin the drive back to Lima. Once back in Lima and taking traffic into consideration, we will tour as much as possible of our City of Kings. Tours today and tomorrow can include modern and colonial Lima as well as visits to the Larco Herrera Museum and Huaca Pucllana.

Day 14 – Lima

Depending on the time of your international flight, we continue exploring Lima today. At the appropriate time, we will drive you back to Lima airport for your flight home.

From Lima, we fly to Arequipa, the White City.
