Travel Itinerary Highlights

Day 1 – Arrival Lima

An Ancient Summit Team Member will welcome and privately assist you to your hotel.

Day 2 – Lima

Get to know Peru’s capital, Lima aka City of Kings. Visit the best museum in South America, the bohemian and the colonial sides of the city and sample Lima’s world class restaurants.

Day 3 – Lima to Cusco and Sacred Valley

Fly to Cusco and meet your private Team. Travel at your pace as we journey to the picturesque Sacred Valley of the Incas with interesting stops along the way. Light activity day as first day in the altitude.

Day 4 – Exploring the Sacred Valley of the Incas

Rich history and archaeology abound in the Sacred Valley along with stunning scenery and warm, welcoming locals. Visit Pisaq Market and the impressive ancient site. Delicious home cooked lunch awaits you at an exclusive private home of Nina’s dear friends.

Day 5 – More of the Magical Sacred Valley

Fantastic explorations in the Valley with tours to the incredible Incan salt mining terraces, Moray site, Maras and a delicious picnic lunch in a scenic area. Visit a remote village whose inhabitants still practice their traditional lifestyle.

Day 6 – Sacred Valley & Express Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Experience awe-inspiring vistas, colorful orchids and hidden archaeological sites along the one-day Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu.

Day 7 – Exploring Machu Picchu

A great day to absorb all the wonder of Machu Picchu with your private guide. We have the option to climb Huayna Picchu or other points of interest inside the Citadel.  Reminisce about the wonders on the luxury dinner train back to Cusco.

Day 8 – Cusco

Full day of intriguing explorations of the fascinating and vibrant city of Cusco, Center of the Incan Empire.

Day 9 – Cusco to Amazon

Detailed Peru Travel Itinerary

From Lima, we fly to Cusco to meet your private team who will soon become your best friends. Best to avoid the high altitude of Cusco for now so we drive towards the Sacred Valley’s lower altitude to begin to acclimate. The next few magical days are spent in the Sacred Valley exploring the places, people, traditions and culture before making our way to the Inca Trail where we hike at your own pace on your private one-day adventure to arrive at Machu Picchu. You have come this far so we give you a longer, more extensive visit to our Wonder of the World, (unlike the traditional 2-hour tours) before taking a special old-world style luxury train back. Now we can explore Cusco, the capital of the Inca empire where we enjoy the eclectic mix of ancient tradition and modern vibrancy. Continuing this long-awaited bucket list adventure, you next will fly to the Amazon and your luxurious Delfin Amazon Cruise. Day 1 – Arrival Lima

A warm welcome from an Ancient Summit Team Member and private transport to your hotel where we assist with the check-in process. What we do this afternoon will depend on your arrival time and your interests. We tailor all the details of this luxury trip especially for you. WELCOME TO PERU!

Day 2 – Lima

Today we immerse in Peru’s capital Lima, also known as the City of Kings, which includes a visit to the Larco Herrera Museum, South America’s most coveted museum and the Huaca Pucllana, a most amazing discovery of an ancient site right in the middle of Miraflores. Today is the perfect opportunity to sample Lima’s world class restaurants. We are happy to help with reservations.

Day 3 – Lima to Cusco and Sacred Valley

Now begins your Andean adventure with a short flight to Cusco.  Enjoy the view from far above the Andes. Upon arrival in Cusco you will meet your personal team and begin the picturesque journey towards the Sacred Valley. Today is your day to take it somewhat easy as a first day in the high altitude. Your guide is with you and will always go at your pace and be mindful of how the altitude affects you. There is so much to do and see in the magical Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Day 4 – Sacred Valley: Pisaq and a Special Private Home Visit

This morning we stop at the Pisaq Market, a traditional Andean market (now fairly touristy) but still interesting), as well as a visit to the ancient site. A specially prepared lunch awaits you at the home of Nina’s dear friend. Wonderful home cooking and seasonal ingredients come from their own organic garden. This home is not open to the public and you will enjoy the authenticity as well as the warmth of being welcomed as Nina’s special guests. After lunch, depending on how you feel, options can be discussed with your guide.

Day 5 – Sacred Valley: Moray, Maras, Incan Salt Terraces and a Traditional Community

Today we continue exploring the Sacred Valley with visits to Moray, an ancient agricultural experimental center, Maras and the famous Incan Salt Mining Terraces followed by a delicious picnic lunch at a scenic spot. After lunch we visit an authentic village whose inhabitants still practice their traditional lifestyle. This is not a usual tourist stop but something we offer our visitors as this is one of the communities, we are dedicated to working closely for sustainability and education of the children.  Our “Moms” welcome you for a demonstration of their ancient weaving tradition and you can participate if the spirit moves you. Nina’s son, Julio, runs the after school-learning center and is very committed to the children and looks forward to inviting you to their classroom. Day 6 – Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu

Very early this morning we drive to the ancient fortress village of Ollantaytambo. This site is one of the few places the Spaniards lost a battle during the conquest and might very well be the reason why they never found Machu Picchu!  From this village we board the train for the panoramic journey to the starting point of your hike on the Inca Trail. Crossing the Vilcanota River via a beautiful bridge we arrive at Chachabamba, the first Inca site on the trek. Leaving this site, the path continues into a forest offering some welcomed shade. We reach a beautiful waterfall and continue to the Inca site of Wiñay Wayna (‘Forever Young’). The journey continues to Inti Punku (Sun Gate) and your first inspiring view of our Wonder of the World! Photo time! Now the walk down through the Citadel and exit to your hotel just outside the gates.  Enjoy your evening in the magic.

Day 7 – Explore Machu Picchu

This morning, relax at your hotel or rise early for your sunrise climb to the famous Huayna Picchu peak or Machu Picchu Mountain. Today you will learn about this most amazing architecture and the mysterious temples to better understand the sophisticated ideas of this highly advanced culture. Lunch is served back at the Lodge. This afternoon we may have time to explore further depending on the departure time of our chosen train back to Cusco.

Day 8 – Cusco

Today is your private tour of the city of Cusco. A city famed for its blend of Spanish and Inca cultures and has long been the inspiration for many an artist and chef.  Once the principal city of the Inca empire, and is now the undisputed archaeological capital of the Americas.  Today we can visit the Koricancha Temple, a classic example of the fusion of Inca and Western cultures. Sacsayhuaman, as well as several other iconic archaeological sites can be visited.  Your guide always has more ideas and ways of showing you this incredible city based on your interests. Your evening is free, and you can wander out and explore.  Cusco is wonderful at night!

Day 9 – Cusco to the Amazon

Now we say farewell to the Andes and return to the airport for your flight to the Amazon City of Iquitos. Upon arrival in Iquitos you are welcomed by a representative of Delfin Amazon Cruises and drive to the port of Nauta to begin your 4-night Amazon experience on board the luxurious Delfin I.

Day 13 – Return to Lima and Home

A lovely last Amazon sunrise and morning outing prior to bidding farewell to your Amazon home of the past few days. As we drive back to Iquitos and the airport, we will hopefully have an opportunity to visit the Manatee Rescue facility. When you arrive to Lima, we have a number of wonderful options depending on the time of your international departure. *If your flight is later this evening, we can arrange for a hotel room where you can freshen up and use as a base camp for the day.
